About Barbara McChesney...
I thoroughly enjoy photography. It allows me to fulfill my passion for capturing lifeʼs special moments, not just the big events that mark significant changes in our lives, but all those little moments in between. I find tremendous joy in experiencing new adventures and preserving lifelong memories that otherwise may be forgotten.
My family and friends know it is a rare moment indeed when I donʼt have a camera hanging from my shoulder. They feel fortunate to know that with camera in hand I will capture our experiences with photos to be cherished for a lifetime. I am affectionately referred to as “Auntie Camera” creating some concern that the younger family members will think of me as the woman with a large single eye.
I have been interested in photography for most of my life taking classes in college but beginning professional work in the past four years. This work began by working with a wonderful group of women friends and fellow photography enthusiasts. We discovered our shared passion and set out on a quest to learn as much as we could by teaching each other, taking classes and attending photography conferences. We continue to shoot together while pursuing our individual photography businesses.
As I pursue my photography, I continue my primary profession as a special education teacher. I have been a special educator for close to 30 years working with children with a wide range of special needs including a great deal of work with children with autism. This work has helped me develop skills to work with people of all backgrounds. I have a very special soft spot for photographing families or events involving children or adults with special needs.
In addition to my professional life as a teacher and photographer, my family is the major focus of my life. My husband, four children and extended family are tremendously supportive and of course provide continuous subjects for my lens to capture.
I am available to photograph special events, weddings, family, high school senior and individual portraits. I look forward to photographing the special moments and people in your lives.
